“AFRICA DOES NOT NEED STRONG MEN, IT NEEDS STRONG INSTITUTIONS”, OBAMA.
I have just listened to this great African-American child. You may like him or hate him but there is no denying the fact that he is the man of our times. His critics will be blowing trumpets in street corners that his speech did not go too far. They may be right. However, not ignoring the ills of colonial regimes, the buck stops with our current generation of leaders.
This takes me back to his quote above and my caption. In March 2009 during an attack on the SLPP opposition Headquarters, we were made to understand that supporters of the ruling APC party allegedly raped women within the premises of the named headquarters. Can someone please educate me what has the responsible authorities/institutions done to address the ills inflicted on those poor women. Has the alleged perpetrators been brought to book? Has measures been put in place by the responsible institutions to ensure that there is not a repeat of this CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. I understand a joint communiqué was signed between the SLPP and APC - a step in the right direction, but this is not what I am alluding to. I am talking of practical measures, such as dismissal of the alleged perpetrators pending investigations irrespective of who their master(s) may be. Enough of the ‘labo labo’, our leaders must get on with the Job they were elected to do in the first place. Those in positions of responsibility should be seen to be responsible before asking others to follow in tow. Or is it the old saying of the pastor, DO AS I SAY BUT NOT AS I DO. Forget not, charity starts at home.
Obama has repeated what has always being my long held mantra – ACCOUNTABILITY EQUALS TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
Have a good day
